Coach Steve

Coach Steve as a kid

Coach Steve grew up playing every sport that was available to him, in a little town called Walnut Grove located in the hot, hot valley of Northern California. The weather was always nice, so playing sports year-round captured his heart, and over time he realized that he just liked to move his body and test it to its limits. He also realized how many friends he’d created while playing sports and being part of a community of like-minded kids. From a young age, he had a soft spot in his heart and soul for building friendships and helping others get better at moving their body, and he realized he cared more about coaching his friends and teammates than he did actually playing sports.

At the age of 15, Coach Steve realized that there was more to his life than just sports. He understood that the body would only perform the way he would like it to if he took care of it to the fullest. Through the process of figuring out how to move his body efficiently, fuel his body, and gain strength, he became more mindful of who he really was from the inside out. Understanding the biomechanics of the body at an early age came second-nature to him.

Why Coach Steve loves what he does for kids alongside his partner

Moving your body at a young age has always been something humans have in common. Coach Kelsey and Coach Steve have coached together for over five years and have been growing since year one. They both realized how important movement is for our youth, and believe in getting the body to move in every capacity with correct form. Coaching a community of youth in Vancouver, WA, and developing a kids’ program to help create a better understanding of what their bodies were capable of doing at a young age as well as teaching techniques of how to recover and take care of the body while it’s not moving was meaningful to both coaches.

Over the last five years Coach Kelsey and Coach Steve have both grown immensely in helping the youth of today understand that with movement comes mindfulness. With the creation of a formula that helps kids' minds, body, and soul all connect, they continue to strive towards creating better self-confidence/esteem in the youth today. Coach Steve explains that every day he is able to coach the youth with his life partner Coach Kelsey, it feels like the most natural thing to do. Giving kids the chance to have a team of adults who believe in self-care through movement is a job that doesn’t feel like a job. It feels like the right thing to do from the soul.

Every kid out there is our kid. They deserve to grow themselves and realize how capable they are of accomplishing anything they put their minds to. Coach Steve's passion is worn on his sleeve and he will always give 100%... it’s easy when it is for kids. This is something Coach Steve will do for the rest of his life.

What Coach Steve has been doing with youth lately

Coach Steve has been working with Coach Kelsey for the last five years building a formula to help kids not only physically, but mentally. Creating self-esteem and confidence through movement is proven to help the youth of today and teaches them to grow as individuals. Creating fitness challenges for our youth and building awareness of how important it is to treat your body with respect has been shown to boost morale within the youth community. Being a Type 1 diabetic, Coach Steve has been dealt a very challenging way of life. Understanding how important it is to take care of one’s body at an early age teaches our kids today how to condition, be mindful, recover, and nurture the mind, body, and soul.

Due to his Type 1 Diabetes, Coach Steve has fine-tuned a way to reach the youth with creating awareness from the inside out. It’s not only what you feed your body, but what you tell your body, and how you treat your body that creates the total package of understanding one’s self at an early age. That’s not rocket science, it’s just us coaches listening to the kiddo and meeting them where they are at. Coach Steve believes in building trust within the community of kids and showing them he truly cares about the individual and makes time to always be available. That’s how he believes you build the future—listening and being present with our youth today!

A little bit of who Coach Steve is outside coaching

If Coach Steve isn’t coaching the youth of today, he is usually working out around town with his life partner, Coach Kelsey. Coach Steve not only enjoys moving, but nature as well. Being one with the planet and playing like a kid outside is something he loves (he’s one old kid, ha ha!). Coach Steve also likes to play with his three kids when they want to hang out. He has two daughters (Maia - 16, Sofia - 13), and one son (Cruz - 9) that he and Coach Kelsey love to spend time with. When Coach Steve isn’t working out or moving, he enjoys some popcorn and a funny movie that he can relax to and to laugh and smile with Coach Kelsey. Being a dork is what he’s best at, but always believing in himself and being the best partner and dad is something he enjoys every day.

Coach Steve constantly works on his mind, body, and soul due to his Type 1 Diabetes, and never stops wanting to grow as an individual to help out those in need in his community. Coach Steve makes sure that being himself is the top priority in life, and that allows him to be the best version of himself out in his community. Anyone is welcome to join Coach Steve and Coach Kelsey for a workout at their place anytime. He looks forward to hanging out with you all soon!
